Our Faculty and Staff

The Science of the Future

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at UT Martin provides a strong foundation in chemical and natural knowledge, utilizing innovative learning techniques to demonstrate both theoretical and practical applications. Our program gives students the opportunity to gain laboratory experience through hands-on training in modern technological facilities. With small class sizes, students are able to build strong relationships with professors and receive one-on-one mentorship.

Accreditation

Chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) since 1976. ACS-approved programs offer a broad-based and rigorous chemistry education that gives students intellectual, experimental, and communication skills to become effective scientific professionals.

Department Scholarships

S.K. and Shashi Airee Scholarship

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to a sophomore or junior attending UT Martin and living on campus.

Norman and Ruby Campbell Scholarship

Awarded annually to a returning student or students majoring in chemistry.

The David S. Loebbaka Award

$150 is awarded to the outstanding astronomy or physics student. The award recognizes Dr. Loebbaka's many contributions to the department and university.

Facilities

The Department of Chemistry and Physics is scheduled to move into the new state-of-the-art, 120,000-square-foot Latimer Engineering and Science Building in fall 2022. The Latimer building was designed to give students a place to call home while attending UTM, with ample student study space, spacious classrooms, open- concept chemistry research space, and modern chemistry and physics labs.
