The UT Martin Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education within the Council on Postsecondary Education and the United States Department of Education. Students graduating with a major in Social Work are prepared for entry into employment at the first professional level in Social Work practice. Social Work majors also receive preferential consideration and advanced standing as candidates for graduate study.
The faculty provide the students with many opportunities to not only learn about the variety of academic areas of social work but also provide hands on practical applications of skills learned in the classroom. Student Organizations provide students with the opportunities to do volunteer work within the community. The Social Work Program is continually reviewed and updated to encompass the latest knowledge, skills, and values base into our social work curriculum.
The underlying philosophy of the Social Work Program at UT Martin is a commitment to human welfare-a concern with the interaction between people and their social environment which effects their ability to accomplish life tasks, handle problems, and realize their aspirations and ideals. It requires a related field activity (internship) which enhances the student's ability to relate what is taught in the classroom with actual practice in the work setting.
