General Studies 101 (GENS 101)
The General Studies 101 class is a semester-long, two-credit hour class that focuses on the strategies and skills needed to achieve success in the collegiate environment. The class is taught every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM by a faculty mentor and one or more PEP Leaders. This course graded A-F does factor into the Tennessee Lottery Scholarship grade point average. Over a 10-year period, 96% of students enroll in the General Studies 101 course. Of those who make an A, the overall semester average is 3.10. Those who choose not to enroll have an overall semester average of 2.50.
Catalog Description
GENS 101-General Studies, Seminar in Freshman Studies (2 credit hours)
This class consists of small group discussions of the problems commonly encountered by First Year Students making the transition from high school to college. The major aspects of the course include assigned readings on current topics, informational programs presented by major academic units, academic and career planning and general orientation to the university.
