Examine facets of the African American experience to broaden students’ worldview regarding race, class, justice, and gender. The African-American Studies and Ethics minor cultivates an awareness and appreciation of historic and contemporary Black American writers, thinkers, performers, artists, and change agents. The program is designed to help foster an awareness of the historical significance of West Tennessee and its role in advancing legislation and social advocacy for civil rights and to engage students in discussing current issues that impact African American daily life in cultural, social, and political spaces.
