Literacy is at the forefront of many educational reforms. Teaching literacy in Tennessee is a statewide initiative and educators at all levels across the state feel the pressure to perform.

The concentration in literacy is designed for students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and are professionally licensed to teach.

This program provides students with an in-depth analysis of foundational literacy skills, disciplinary literacy strategies, writing assessment, diagnosis, and interventions. Our program seeks to prepare candidates to become effective literacy teachers, specialists, and leaders in the field of literacy.
