ITS Maintenance and Updates

  • Monthly maintenance updates will occur on Thursday, January 16, 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. This includes our monthly mandatory security patches for all services. Users may experience intermittent downtime.
  • ITS will enable BitLocker on all Windows PCs on January 16. BitLocker is Microsoft's drive encryption solution. It is a security measure that will be enabled in the background and should not be noticeable to you. If you have personally enabled encryption on your University-owned Windows PC, please call the Help Desk at 731-881-7900 to allow IT to turn off your personally enabled encryption prior to BitLocker being enabled.

ITS Billing Delayed

Monthly billing for January for Multi-Function Devices and RingCentral will be delayed due to the DASH transition. January invoices will be sent out and billed in February with that month's invoices.

IT Help Desk January Hours

Monday, 1/20. The Help Desk will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

The Help Desk will return to Regular Hours on Tuesday, 1/21

Dash Support

The Office of Information Technology Services is here to help and answer your DASH questions. You can submit requests and questions through our DASH request form or by contacting the ITS Help Desk at 731-881-7900 or helpdesk@utm.edu. UT System also has knowledge base with resources for users to review as needed.

RingCentral: Forwarding Calls

With our new RingCentral system, there are multiple ways to forward calls. The preferred method is to always use the Ring Central desktop client, mobile app, or web portal. Refer to this knowledge base article for forwarding phone calls. Using one of these methods, you can change the forwarding settings from anywhere you have access to the internet.

If you use the forward button on your physical desk phone, then the forwarding is handled by the physical device rather than the RingCentral cloud system. Forwarding calls from the physical phone can only be undone at the phone, and you will NOT be able to change it remotely. Also, UTM ITS will not have access to disable forwarding for you if it's done at the physical phone.

Timely Reporting of IT Security Events

The timely reporting of IT-related security events and incidents is crucial for keeping our campus safe. To minimize potential impacts, report any such events to the UTM Help Desk as quickly as possible. Here are key points to remember:

  • Don't be afraid to report. If you click on a malicious link or open an infected attachment, report it immediately. Mistakes happen! Attempting to hide or fix an issue instead of reporting it increases the likelihood of an incident or data breach.
  • Prevention of further incidents. Addressing an incident promptly can help prevent it from escalating or affecting other systems.
  • When in doubt, ask for help. If you're unsure about an email, link, or attachment, please contact the Help Desk at 731-881-7900 or forward it to abuse@utm.edu.

The faster we recognize and report suspicious or malicious activity, the better we can mitigate its effects. Thank you for your continued vigilance in helping keep our campus community and data safe!
