IT Maintenance Updates

IT Services will be performing network maintenance on Thursday, April 20th, 5:00pm - 10:00pm. This includes our monthly mandatory security patches for all services. ITS also expects the new Banner releases in PPRD to move to PROD during this time with accompanying testing as needed. Users may experience intermittent downtime.

ITS Customer Service and Satisfaction Survey

UT Martin's Information Technology Services is conducting a customer satisfaction survey, and we want to hear from you! We ask you to share your thoughts on the campus technology services available to help us improve our services for UT Martin. Your responses are anonymous and will only be used in collective results. Use this link to access the survey.

Please complete the survey by Friday, April 14th, 2023. At the completion of the survey, you will be presented with the chance to enter a drawing for a gift card valued at 100 dollars. There is no purchase or fee required to participate in the drawing. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact the ITS Computer Help Desk at 731-881-7900 or helpdesk@utm.edu.

Screen Lockout

Last year, ITS completed the first year of security testing, which included areas like phishing, vishing, and physical security. As a result of the physical security testing, the university has implemented a screen lock policy in March whereby staff PCs will automatically lock after 20 minutes of inactivity. This only locks the screen and requires your password to unlock, but it does not log out the current session. Macs and faculty PCs will not be affected by this change at this time.

Changes to Retiree NetID & Email Benefits

To align with security best practices and the rest of the UT System, UTM will be making changes to the email policy for retirees and alumni over the next year. Beginning July 1, 2023, new faculty/staff retirees leaving the University will retain access to their UT email account for 30 days from their last day of employment before their account is closed. If you are retiring and your termination date is before July 1, 2023, you will be able to keep your account as long as you maintain sponsorship from your department or organization. Existing retirees will keep their accounts as long as they maintain sponsorship from their department or organization.

Changes to Alumni Email

Beginning with the Spring 2023 graduating class, alumni will have access to their Google account for one year after graduation. Existing alumni will have until January 31, 2024, to transition any services to a personal email account. The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is in the process of contacting current alumni affected by this change. UTM staff who contact these groups regularly should be aware of these changes as we transition them from UT email to their personal email accounts. Alumni can ensure that their new non-UTM email address is on file with UTM by completing this short form.

Are Your Courses Exam-Ready?

The ITC offers these tips and resources as you prepare your final exams.

  • Promote Academic Integrity. Proctorio is the cheating-deterrent tool for online tests. Turnitin is the new plagiarism checker for papers submitted online.
  • Communicate Optimal Computer Settings. Remind students to take their exams from a computer with high-speed reliable internet, rather than from their phones. For exams with Proctorio, students should update their browsers to the most current version of Chrome.
  • Administer Finals with Bubble Sheets. Faculty can use Akindi to create in-class exam bubble sheets.
  • Create Test Banks. With the Akindi Importer test tool, faculty can import test questions from a Word document into Akindi, which then generates a Canvas Quiz file.
  • Hide Correct Answers. In Canvas, share correct answers after all students have taken the test.
  • Assign Extra Time for Students with Accommodations. The Canvas Moderate tool allows faculty to assign extra time to students who require a learning accommodation of time and-a-half or more on their tests.
  • Provide Support. Set the availability of the online exams during a window of time that the Help Desk will be available to offer support to students.
  • Brew Coffee. Brew lots of coffee.

For more information about these tools, please contact the ITC.
