Help Desk Hours

The Help Desk will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, June 20th.

RingCentral

Changes are coming to the telephones on campus. Our phone system is at the end of its life, and it will be replaced with a voice-over IP (VoIP) system from RingCentral. It allows users to make calls over the internet and to use their UTM phone number easily wherever they are. Some of the benefits are:

  • Supports remote/hybrid work.
  • Supports multiple devices - computer, tablet, iPhone/Android app, or a desk phone.
  • Includes free long-distance, voice mail, text messaging, and fax capabilities.

During the transition, 4-digit dialing will not be available between the legacy phone system and RingCentral. To call from the legacy system to a RingCentral number or vice versa, users will dial the full 10-digit number.

IT Services Staff will be moving to RingCentral on June 5th. To reach ITS staff at that time, users will dial the full 10-digit number. The Help Desk will remain on our legacy system until a later date.

Wi-Fi Changes

As part of our ongoing wireless upgrades SkyNet will shut down on July 29th. Eduroam is the preferred Wi-Fi network and should be used for devices such as laptops, tablets, and phones. Knowledge Base articles are available for connecting with most devices. UTM-Open is also available for devices that do not support enterprise encryption and authentication methods. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Help Desk

End of Support for Windows 10

Windows 11 is now available for all compatible university machines. To provide enough time to replace machines that are not compatible, ITS will stop supporting Windows 10 machines that cannot be upgraded on July 1st, 2025.

If your machine can be upgraded, please do so by July 1, 2024. To upgrade to Windows 11, open Software Center located on your desktop or within the programs list. Under Operating Systems, you will see the option to install Windows 11. Click Install and then confirm the installation. A system check will run to verify that your computer meets the requirements for Windows 11. If the scan fails, you will receive a message to inspect the error. Click Inspect and take note of the failure reasons listed. Please call the ITS Help Desk at 731-881-7900 if you receive a failure notice or need assistance with upgrading your machine.

Introducing New Quizzes!

On June 10th, faculty creating a quiz in Canvas will be given the option to choose from the current Classic Quizzes tool or the "New Quizzes" tool. The New Quiz interface looks different, and there are new functions. For example, faculty will be able to:

  • print quizzes;
  • assign extra time for students with accommodations for all quizzes;
  • implement new quiz types; and
  • view additional analysis of assessments.

For more information, check out this video, Canvas Instructor Guide, and ITC training dates in Runway.

New Search Tool Now Appearing in Canvas

Faculty and students will notice a new Search option at the top of their courses and in the Global Menu. The Atomic Jolt Search tool enables users to search within their courses for content (e.g., searching for a specific topic in creating or preparing for an exam.). If you have any questions, please contact the ITC
