SANS Training Due September 30, 2023

UT Policy requires that all faculty and staff, including sponsored accounts and retirees with a UTM email or active directory account, complete annual security awareness training. This year, there have been some changes to the training platform.

Current faculty and staff members will now complete training on k@te. You will have the option to test out of most of the general required training. If you are required to complete advanced training modules, you will not be able to test out of them. Please follow these instructions to access the SANS training:

To access the training:

  • Open a web browser.
  • Go to https://kate.tennessee.edu/ and that's where you
  • Click "UT Faculty and Staff.
  • Login with your NETID and password.
  • Select the icon My Active Courses.
  • You will see your assigned Compliance curriculum.
  • Select Open Curriculum to get started.

Retiree and Sponsored account owners have received alternative training through a phishing campaign. All new hires who completed their training between January 1, 2023, and June 14, 2023, have fulfilled the yearly core requirements; however, additional modules may be required for some employee positions. This year's training must be completed by September 30, 2023. Please call the UT Martin ITS Helpdesk at (731) 881-7900 with questions about logging on or accessing the training modules.

Improvements to Account Management

We are excited to announce improvements to your account management experience. ITS has implemented a password sync service between NetID and UTM AD accounts. All password changes for UTM AD accounts will be managed through the NetID at ds.tennessee.edu, and you will no longer change your password locally (ctrl + alt + delete). No changes to your password will be made unless you initiate a password change at ds.tennessee.edu.

What does this mean for you?

Unified Password: With the new password sync, your Active Directory and NetID accounts will share the same password. Changing your NetID password will automatically update your UTM password, ensuring consistency and reducing the hassle of remembering multiple passwords.

Simplified Account Management: You will no longer need to manage two separate passwords for accessing different resources or change both accounts for the passwords to match. This simplification will save you time and reduce the risk of password-related issues.

Harmonize: New Tools to Enhance Discussions

Milestones: Many faculty lament the student participation in online discussions because students may wait until just before the due date to make all of their posts. As a result, the value of online discussions are minimized. Harmonize now offers a "Milestone" tool that requires students to post early in the discussion availability. To view the Milestone due dates on their calendars, students must sync their Harmonize account to their Canvas account. If you plan to use the Milestone tool, please share these instructions on how students can sync Harmonize dates to their Canvas calendars . Note that the Milestone due dates will not appear on the instructor's Course Calendar, while final Harmonize due dates will appear. Contact the ITC if you need further assistance.

Brainstorm Tool for Faculty: Harmonize recently launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration to assist faculty in creating discussion prompts. The integration allows faculty to provide ChatGPT with a topic and to request prompts for students to address. The integration also allows faculty to choose what level of learning to address. Faculty can then view ChatGPT results, delete the results, or edit the content before deploying. Check out these instructions or Contact the ITC .
