As part of our ongoing commitment to digital security and protecting the university's data, we are announcing a significant update to our virtual collaboration environments. Effective immediately, Otter.ai, Read.ai, and other third-party AI tools integrated with Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been disabled across the University of Tennessee network. This decision follows an in-depth review by the OIT Security team, which identified potential vulnerabilities that could compromise the privacy and integrity of our communications. faculty, staff, and students must take precedence. Here's What You Need to Know: - The discontinuation affects only third-party AI tools. Native features provided directly by Zoom and Teams will continue to operate as usual.
- All university members are requested to refrain from attempting to use or reinstall any third-party AI tools until further notice.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these changes together. We remain steadfast in our priority of keeping UT's digital spaces secure while providing effective collaboration tools. Read the full announcement online. (Source: UTK OIT)

UTM's IT Help Desk is located in Crisp Hall. The Help Desk will be closed on Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day. The Help Desk will return to regular hours on Tuesday, 9/3. Regular hours:Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fridays, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturdays, Noon - 5:00 p.m., and Sundays, Noon - 9:00 p.m.
Changes are underway to campus telephones. Our phone system is at the end of its life, and we will be replacing it with a voice-over IP (VoIP) system from RingCentral. It allows you to make calls over the internet and use your UTM phone number easily wherever you are. Some of the benefits are: - Enables simpler 10-digit dialing. No more dialing 9 for an outside line.
- Supports remote/hybrid work.
- Supports multiple devices - computer, tablet, iPhone/Android app, or a desk phone.
- Includes free domestic long-distance, voice mail, text messaging, and fax capabilities.
Phone service pricing will increase to twenty dollars/month for all lines when your department is moved. During the transition, ITS will forward 4-digit dialing from the old phone system to RingCentral as numbers are ported. So those on the legacy system will still be able to 4-digit dial anyone. However, people on RingCentral can only 4-digit dial other RingCentral extensions and will need to 10-digit dial anyone on the legacy system. Alumni Center, Clement Hall, EPS, Humanities, IT Services, Student Recreation Center, University Center, and Physical Plant have moved. The next group will move on September 11th and will include Business Administration, Gooch Hall, Latimer-Smith, Holland McCombs, Sociology, and Student Health. User training is available in our Knowledge Base.
