Language Immersion Programs
UT Martin offers an extensive list of opportunities to study foreign languages abroad. These include programs ranging from 2-6 weeks in the summer to an entire semester (or academic year) abroad. Learning a foreign language in its country of origin is one of the most transformative experiences available - both personally and professionally - during your university years. Consider this immensely valuable opportunity to improve your fluency in the following foreign languages and to immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of your chosen host country.
Japanese
The Japanese program at UT Martin facilitates a variety of language immersion Study Abroad opportunities in Japan. Students can participate in a summer 2-4 week program or spend one or two semesters at our partner institutions listed below learning Japanese.
All students wishing to study abroad in Japan are required to complete JAPN 222 prior to participating. During their term or semester of travel, they will pay UT Martin tuition, housing costs in Japan, and travel costs. FAFSA funds (Pell Grant, Stafford Loans) can be used for all program costs, making this one of the most affordable Study Abroad opportunities.
Students may choose from the following participating institutions:

- Takasaki City University of Economics (高崎経済大学)
- Aichi Shukutoku University (愛知淑徳大学)

German
The German program at UT Martin facilitates a summer-term language immersion Study Abroad opportunity in Germany. Students can participate in a four week orsix week program or spend one semester at Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany learning German.
Students studying for four weeks can earn up to six credit hours in German language, while those studying for six weeks can earn up to nine credit hours in German language. Students studying for one semester are free to choose among a variety of courses taught in English or German.
All students who study abroad in Germany will pay UT Martin tuition during their term or semester of study. Housing costs will be paid through our partner institution. All costs, including tuition, housing, and travel costs, qualify for CGEE scholarships. Additionally, FAFSA funds (Pell Grant, Stafford Loans) can be used for all program costs, making this one of the most affordable Study Abroad opportunities.

Spanish
The Spanish program at UT Martin facilitates the following language immersion programs, for those students desiring to develop their Spanish language skills abroad. Toledo, Spain
The Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, in Toledo, Spain, offers a four week summer program, where students may earn up to six credit hours of Spanish language instruction. Students pay tuition and housing costs directly to the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
Program fees include cultural activities and excursions in and around Toledo; homestays are also an option, for those students wishing to have a more intense cultural and linguistic immersion experience. All costs, including tuition, housing, and travel costs, qualify for CGEE scholarships, helping to make this already affordable study abroad experience even more so.
Panama City, Panama
Español en Panamá (¡EPA!) offers a variety of opportunities to earn Spanish credit while living in Panama City. Earn 3-9 credit hours in a 2-6 week summer term in a full immersion program that integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students pay tuition and housing costs directly to ¡EPA!
Program fees include cultural activities each week and weekend activities once each month. All costs, including tuition, housing, and travel costs, qualify for CGEE scholarships, helping to make this already affordable study abroad experience even more so.

Passport Application Information
The U.S. passport identifies the bearer as a U.S. citizen or national. It is a request to foreign governments to permit travel or temporary residence in their territories and access to all lawful, local aid and protection.
