The Dean of Students office provides one-on-one support for students as they navigate basic needs insecurity challenges. Students work closely with a member of our team to access and utilize both campus and community resources. The programs below seek to support students with basic need security and thrive long-term.

Food Insecurity

Skyhawks Share

Skyhawks Share is a program to assist students with short term food insecurity. Students can request assistance from the program twice per semester (5 meals per request). Meals will be applied to a student's Skyhawk Card and can be used in the Skyhawk Dining Hall.

The Skyhawks Share program is an initiative of SGA, Student Affairs and Sodexo.

Captains Pantry

Captain’s Pantry is a food pantry that is open to all UTM students. Students can pick up food items, free of charge, at two locations: Ellington Hall Lobby and Cooper Hall Lobby. The pantries are open 24/7 during the academic year.

Student Emergency Fund

Student Affairs Emergency Fund was started to provide limited emergency funding for University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) students experiencing financial hardship (e.g. Accident, Emergency, Illness, Other Unforeseen Event).

Funds may be utilized to cover expenses such as:

  • Essential academic needs (e.g. books and supplies).
  • Replacement of lost personal items due to fire, theft, flood, etc.
  • Housing needs (e.g. securing short-term housing, assistance with utilities, etc.).
  • One-time / non-recurring medical expenses.
  • Emergency expenses related to dependents (e.g. childcare).
  • Students enrolled in the current semester as a part-time, half-time, or full-time student (or have pre-registered if between semesters) are eligible. Students are only eligible to receive funding from the Student Emergency Fund once per year and twice overall.

Hygiene Pantry

The Hygiene Pantry provides students with basic hygiene items such as toiletries and feminine hygiene products.

The hygiene pantry is located in the Multicultural Center, Room 214 of the University Center.

Captain’s Closet

Captain’s Closet provides free, gently used business casual and professional clothing to UT Martin Students.

Captain’s Closet is located in the Career Planning and Development Office, Room 210 of the University Center.

Connection to Care is a reporting tool to allow us to help students with any concern they are facing. You can submit a Connection to Care on a fellow student or yourself.
